If you are missing one or more teeth in Stamford and are interested in dental implants, you may be wondering what your options are for replacing them, and how the process of dental implant restoration works. Learn more about what to expect from Clear Smile Dental Studio below, or by contacting us for an appointment with Dr. Byungchul Park or Dr. Gitae Kwon.
An implant restoration is a prosthetic used to replace one or more missing teeth, in combination with dental implants. Dental implants are small, screw-shaped rods of titanium that replace the root of your missing tooth. In contrast, an implant restoration like a dental crown replaces the missing tooth itself.
Together, dental implants and implant restorations allow you to permanently restore your smile and your bite. Whether you’re missing a single tooth or you have lost all of your teeth, implant restorations from our Stamford dentists can be used to restore your appearance, ability to chew and speak, and more.
The most common type of implant restoration from our Stamford dental office is a crown, also known as a “single-tooth restoration.” Crowns are made out of porcelain and are designed to look and feel just like a natural tooth. One crown can be attached to a single implant to replace one missing tooth.
Implant-supported bridges are also an option if you are missing more than one adjacent tooth. This type of restoration uses two implants to support a row of 2-3 or more missing teeth, and is a great option if you’ve lost several teeth but your remaining teeth are strong and healthy.
Finally, implant-supported dentures can be used to replace a full arch of missing upper or lower teeth. This type of implant restoration uses 4-6 dental implants to support a full row of false teeth. Depending on the type of restoration, full-arch implant-supported dentures may be removable, similar to traditional dentures, or they may be permanently fixed in place.
The process of creating your dental implant restoration begins a few weeks after your implants have been placed. You will come back to Clear Smile Dental Studio so that Dr. Park or Dr. Kwon can check on your healing progress, and ensure that you are free of common complications.
During this time, your Stamford dentist will also take images and dental impressions of your dental implants and the surrounding gums and teeth. These are sent to a dental lab, where your restoration will be made.
Depending on the type of restoration, you may have to come back to our office for multiple fittings and visits. Implant-supported bridges and dentures often require this. Your dental restoration will be tested and fitted to your mouth, and Dr. Park or Dr. Kwon will check the fit and take notes to ensure the final denture fits perfectly.
Once your final restoration has been built by the dental lab and your mouth has healed completely, which takes about 3-6 months, you will come into our Stamford office for your final appointment. Your restoration will be checked one final time, and then it will be attached to your dental implant or implants, restoring your smile.
